How did your interest in Charles Darwin inspire you to write The Danger Box? ![]() Your previous novels were history mysteries. ![]() Zoomy puts the journal, filled with notations about the Galapagos Islands, under his bed in his cardboard “danger box” eventually, he and a friend figure out that the notebook is a famous artifact. One day the boy’s alcoholic father drops off a pilfered container with a mysterious notebook inside. (Scholastic is printing 75,000 copies, which will add to the 2 million books in print for her previous three titles.) In this story, 12-year-old Zoomy lives with his grandparents in a tiny Michigan town. Six years ago, she started publishing bestselling mysteries: Chasing Vermeer, followed by The Wright 3 and The Calder Game. But she also loved spinning fictional tales based on intriguing historical figures. This story is incredibly romantic and heartbreaking and made me think of those who’ve left us. Set in Cornwall at Christmas, there’s plenty of description and Cornish history to picture how the village was now and during the war. It had me captivated and moved to tears pretty much all the way through. ![]() I’m not generally keen on period fiction, but The Last Card was so interesting and informative of what people had to endure back then. Grandma Lily (known affectionately as Grilly) finds a Christmas card from the 1940s and proceeds to tell her grandaughter Ellen about the time she fell in love with an American serviceman during the war. Farmer Brown is an older white guy that works hard for his living. This is a plot driven story that is easy to read and to the point. The illustrations are lovable and add a lot to the story. Literary elements at work in the story: One of the strengths of the book is the repeated refrain Click, Clack, Moo. The blankets were left outside the barn door, but Duck hijacked the typewriter and the ducks requested a diving board for the pond. The cows agreed to a compromise, they would surrender the typewriter for the electric blankets. Farmer Brown was irate and sent an ultimatum to the cows through Duck. Farmer Brown refused and the next day there was no milk and no eggs for Farmer Brown. ![]() The day after that the chickens were also requesting electric blankets. The next day the cows refused to give Farmer Brown milk. Farmer Brown refused and got really angry. ![]() The cows found an old type writer, practiced typing, and typed him a request for electric blankets. When Tony was 17, skateboarding was going through a boom and he profited from it. He started competing at age 12 and became a professional at 14.
